The Museo de Historia Natural Carlos de la Torre y Huerta (Carlos de la Torre y Huerta Natural History Museum) in Holguín, is a gallery where you will learn more about the characteristics of the Cuban nature and its many species, especially those of the northeastern part of the island where Holguín is located.

For nature lovers who have already seen the astonishing paradises of the island and would like to take a closer look at its species, the Museo de Historia Natural (Natural History Museum) is the perfect place, as you will have an awesome collection of malacology, ornithology, lepidopteran species, insects, rocks, minerals and paleontology at your disposal with regional and national samples as well as items from other parts of the world.

The Museum is placed in a building of the old Spanish colony, a space where the bourgeoisie of the era got together in the free time created to get together the Spanish residents in Cuba with their descendants. It is a glamorous building of very original eclectic style drawing attention to the columns at the entrance, the roof, the two viewpoints located on both sides of the building and the two marble lions that welcome the visitors at the entrance.

The museum’s collections come partly from the donations of the Guamá Museum, the first one in the city. In them it is possible to encounter very rare samples that live exclusively in this island of Cuba or more to the point, in this region as scorpions or the Cuban solenodon (almiquí), a big insectivorous mammal. In the paleontology section the museum will proudly show you the best preserved fossil in the whole of Cuba that among other items, make this one of the best galleries in the country.
