Honeymoon trip to Cayo Guillermo

Visiting the cozy city of Havana and enjoying the wonderful treasures that this place offers you, you will undoubtedly live an insurmountable honeymoon. In Old Havana you will be surprised by the beauty of its cobbled streets and its great historical heritage, among which the four main squares that make up the historic center stand out.

In the Plaza de Armas, near the sea, you will find a large patio formerly used for parades and military exhibitions, while in the Plaza de la Catedral you will delight in the majestic and baroque Cathedral of San Cristóbal de La Habana, one of the religious monuments most famous and beautiful in all of Cuba. In the Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, in colonial style, you will appreciate the Lonja de Comercio, an imposing commercial building with a beautiful dome on the top, the Fountain of the Lions, a wonderful marble sculpture made by the Italian Domenico Gagini, or the Church and Convent of San Francisco de Asís, which is a valuable example of Cuban baroque and is the place where the Museum of Religious Art is located, an unavoidable stop if you want to delve into this facet of Cuban culture. In the Plaza Vieja you will find colorful modernist buildings and a multitude of places to rest, such as bars, restaurants and breweries, all of them ideal to try dishes of Havana gastronomy such as Ropa Vieja (made with shredded meat, seasoned and accompanied by chickpeas or chips) or the Moros y Cristianos (a delicious combination of rice and black beans).

Leaving the historic center and crossing the Paseo del Prado, a large boulevard with beautiful trees and many shops and businesses, you will arrive at the Malecón. There is no better end to a long day than to stroll along this kilometer-long promenade and contemplate one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island and in the whole world.

Dare to also visit emblematic cities such as Trinidad, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for the high value of its architectural complex, and enjoy the pleasure of walking through its colorful, cobbled and distinctive streets. Here you will find exceptional museums such as the Romantic Museum or the Colonial Architecture Museum, where you will discover relics of the recent and not so recent past of this wonderful place.

Another essential stop on your honeymoon in Cuba is the beautiful Santiago de Cuba, the second most important city on the island, with a great colonial history and the cradle of many musical genres, such as son and bolero. It was founded in 1515 and many places from this time still stand remembering this historical moment that changed the history of the country forever. Its monumental architecture, its colorful art or its exciting traditions will take you back half a century and you will fall in love with this beautiful island even more.

If you prefer to go directly to the beach to enjoy the sun, the sea and some delicious mojitos, you have the option of spending the whole day under one of the palm trees of Cayo Largo del Sur in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and taking a bath in any of its heavenly beaches, such as Playa Los Cocos or Playa Lindarena. All of them are perfect for diving and observing the infinity of beautiful coral reefs that are hidden on the seabed.

Other interesting stops are the keys that make up the Jardines del Rey, such as Cayo Cruz, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco. In Cayo Cruz you will find places as special as Playa Dorada or Playa Sigua, where you will enjoy an almost virgin natural environment with hardly any modification, which guarantees a deep contact with nature. In Cayo Coco you will discover some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, such as Playa Larga or Playa Flamencos, where with luck you will observe the life and natural habitat of the imposing wild flamingos. In Cayo Guillermo, you will also have the option of practicing water sports such as scuba diving and snorkelling, more than recommended, and admire colorful starfish and a great variety of striking tropical fish.

In Cayo Santa María you will find more than ten kilometers of dream beaches, such as Playa Cañón, Playa Perla Blanca or Playa La Colorada, perfect to enjoy a privileged natural space and relax in the company of your partner.

Cuba stands out for its dream beaches, but among all of them there is one that stands out. The beautiful Varadero beach will make your vacation an unforgettable experience with its turquoise waters and fine white sand. Without a doubt, it is the ideal destination to relax, appreciate the maritime environment and enjoy your honeymoon to the fullest.

Cuba is a perfect country to go on a honeymoon, as it has a wide variety of activities that will turn your wedding trip into an unforgettable experience. There are activities for all tastes, both adventurous for the most intrepid couples, and relaxation for the quieter ones.

In Cuba you will have the opportunity to take a tour of the main cities of the island and learn about the incredible results of so many years of history and cultural diversity. If you are looking to peacefully enjoy Cuban nature, a good plan is to spend some incredible days under the shade of the wonderful tropical beaches with turquoise waters and white sand, such as the idyllic Cayo Coco, the fascinating beach of Cayo Santa María or the extraordinary beaches of Varadero, perfect for water sports such as snorkeling or diving and discovering the wonderful Cuban marine fauna. In the incredible Guardalavaca Beach you will not only have all these experiences, but you will also enjoy relaxing spa days with traditional techniques and essences, as well as pleasant baths in natural spas, very popular throughout the country. In addition, to culminate the relaxation experience with a flourish, you will taste a succulent dinner with views of the sea and you will taste the delicacies of Cuban gastronomy to the sound of its passionate music.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for more adventurous experiences and a deeper contact with nature, there are many excursions that you will love. For example, in the province of Matanzas you will find the Cueva de Saturno, a spectacular cave where you will admire impressive stalagmites and stalactites and where you will have the opportunity to dive in an incredible cenote

Near Trinidad you will enjoy the exuberant Topes de Collantes National Park, ideal for discovering the Cuban fauna and flora and hiking through impressive trails such as the Salto del Caburní, as well as the invaluable World Heritage Site Valle de los Ingenios, where you will find the Route del Esclavo, perfect to enjoy the views of this precious natural treasure. Also in the province of Sancti Spíritus is the Caguanes National Park, where you will meet endemic species, such as the butterfly bat, and migratory birds such as pelicans and flamingos.

Cuba is an ideal destination if you plan to make your honeymoon trip in the company of children, since this charming Caribbean corner offers a multitude of special activities for your little ones and a close and friendly treatment by its inhabitants, who will undoubtedly captivate seniors and children.

Without having to leave the fantastic capital of the island, Havana, you will find several theme and amusement parks that will delight young and old, as they are the perfect excuse to make a stop on the trip and dedicate one or more half a day to have fun with your family. In front of the Malecón you will discover a huge square with fairground attractions such as ferris wheels and bouncy castles, La Maestranza Park, a perfect place for you to discover the bust of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and to rest in its green areas while the children play. On the other hand, in the old Coney Island, very close to the National Circus of Cuba, you will find one of the largest theme parks in Cuba, the Parque la Isla del Coco, with incredible fairground attractions that will not leave you indifferent. As if that were not enough, in Lenin Park you will find, apart from the Lenin monument, an impressive amusement park with traditional, lifelong attractions that will take you back to your own childhood. In addition, Lenin Park also has bars and restaurants where you can have a drink with the children after a long day of sightseeing, a beautiful artificial lake where you can take boat rides or feed the ducks and an incredible aquarium, perfect for children to learn about native fish varieties, such as the manjuarí, the biajaca or the Cuban killi.

If the Lenin Park aquarium has not been enough and the children are still interested in seeing animals, very close you have the National Zoological Park, where you will discover all kinds of Cuban and international animal species and where apart from doing guided tours you have the option of participating in recreational activities such as educational games focused on zoology. In addition, in the Miramar neighborhood you will know the National Aquarium of Cuba. Here you will explore some Cuban coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, and you will find a wonderful dolphinarium in which presentations and performances of dolphins and sea lions are made periodically.

Beyond theme parks and animals, in the Jaimanitas neighborhood you will find a colorful architecture that will undoubtedly take your breath away and that will remind you of an incredible Caribbean version of Barcelona. Here you will discover Fusterlandia, a neighborhood of impressive architecture made from tesserae and mosaics designed by José Antonio Rodríguez Fuster, after whom it is named, and which is a tribute to the Catalan modernist Gaudí.

In addition, in Eastern Havana you will find the Eastern Beaches, among which Playa Tarará especially stands out for its fine white sands and its crystal clear turquoise waters. It is located in a perfect enclave for you to enjoy the beautiful Havana sunrises and sunsets with your family, as well as to have fun riding the waves with the children in one of the many pedal boats available for rent.

If you want to live a little adventure game with the children and get them to know first-hand the exciting world of pirates, you will find in Havana two incredible fortresses that are perfect for it. In the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña you will discover the history of the defense of the city against pirate attacks thanks to different shows, such as the night parade of soldiers dressed in 18th century attire that culminates with an impressive cannonball ceremony. In the Castillo de la Real Fuerza you will get to know the oldest colonial fortress in America, dating from the 16th century, and you will also find different exhibits of ancient remains of pirate treasures.

Moving away from Havana, in historic Santiago de Cuba you will have the opportunity to explore the Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca del Morro, an impressive fort declared a World Heritage Site where you will see its famous pirate museum. In addition, just 20 kilometers from the city you will find the Baconao Park, declared a World Biosphere Reserve, which has its own lagoons and aquariums and various interesting attractions to visit with children, such as the Valley of Prehistory, where you will enjoy more than two hundred life-size dinosaur sculptures.

In addition, in the Jardines del Rey you will find up to three dolphinariums that will not leave you indifferent. The most famous is the one located in Cayo Santa María, but the one in Cayo Guillermo and the one in Cayo Coco have nothing to envy either in terms of facilities or in terms of activities. In all of them you can interact with these beautiful animals, so it is the perfect excuse for your children to have fun and meet the most intelligent and friendly aquatic mammal in the world. As if that were not enough, moving to Cayo Saetía you will find, apart from paradisiacal beaches like those of the previous keys, the option of going on a safari that will allow children to continue entering the varied Cuban, Caribbean and international fauna.

Continuing with the discovery of the local animal species, in the Ciénaga de Zapata the little ones will know one of the largest crocodile farms on the entire island, next to the one located in Playa Larga in the province of Matanzas. Visiting the Ciénaga, children will have the opportunity to meet these huge reptiles and even feed them or take photos with a baby.

What are the most romantic plans to make on your honeymoon in Cuba?

Beyond monumental cities and spectacular dream beaches, Cuba hides a multitude of secret romantic corners that you will discover with your partner on a perfect wedding trip.

An ideal romantic plan in Havana is to walk quietly along the Paseo del Prado, one of the most important in all of Latin America, while admiring its colorful and impressive architecture, to finally converge on the Malecón, a great stop to rest after a long day and appreciate the beautiful Havana sunset. A few steps away you will find the Hotel Malecón 663, which in addition to being an enviable accommodation also has spectacular views and a boutique-style decoration. If you visit this place on Thursday afternoons, to the wonderful coastal views and impressive decoration you will add the pleasure of listening to live jazz music from local artists.

Another interesting activity to do to celebrate your recent nuptials and enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of Havana is to take the ferry that will take you from Old Havana to the beautiful town of Casablanca on a magical and incomparable tour of the Bay of Havana. Upon arrival in Casablanca, you will see the monumental Christ of Havana, a colossal statue that presides over and blesses the Havana skyline.

Back in Havana, a wonderful plan to catch your breath is to go to the Floridita bar, open since 1817, where you will try one of the best daiquiris in the capital and in all of Cuba, made with white rum, lime and sugar, and where you will appreciate sculptures, photographs and writings of Ernest Hemingway, a dedicated fan of this peculiar bar.

Once your palate is satisfied, if you are interested in Cuban music, in the Marianao area you will find the most famous cabaret in Cuba, El Tropicana, where in addition to tasting its refreshing drinks you will enjoy a creative musical show focused mainly on Cuban folklore. If you still want more, another essential stop for every Cuban music lover is the Art Factory, an old industrial building converted into an art gallery and nightclub where you will get to know the best of contemporary Cuban art.

Beyond Havana, in the beautiful and colonial Trinidad you will find perfect places to enjoy a good time of Cuban music with your partner, such as the Ayala Discoteca, also known as La Cueva because it is located in a mountainous natural cave, or the Casa de la Música, a theater where you will attend high-class live shows.

Other essential visits on your honeymoon in Cuba, if you not only want to know the capital, are the Cienfuegos Club and the Palacio de Valle in the maritime and beautiful city of Cienfuegos, where you will taste some local dishes such as the Covadonga paella, of ancient origins Asturian, or the corn flour with crab, the Creole biajaca or the pulpeta de Macabí, all of them dishes of indigenous tradition. After enjoying the tasty local cuisine, a good option is to take a quiet walk through the city center and the promenade on one of the many horse carriage tours or visit the impressive Cienfuegos Botanical Garden, where you will have the perfect excuse to continue delving into the incredible Cuban flora.

In the traditional village of Sancti Spíritus you will find spectacular places such as the bridge over the river that crosses the city, the Yayabo river, or the magical Casa de la Trova, located in an old colonial house from the 18th century, where you will discover the rhythmic local music and where you will enjoy the Serenade Nights, a kind of contest and show in which groups of musicians from the area recite and perform ballads, boleros and romantic songs.
