The Castillo de Seboruco de Santa Bárbara (Seboruco de Santa Bárbara Castle) was one of the three forts that covered a monumental area of 3,698 metres. This fully-secured fort protected the city of Baracoa when it faced the enemies coming from the sea. Nowadays it is known as the Hotel El Castillo and its history remains between the walls as if time had stopped in 1740 when the construction works started by order of Pedro Oviedo. It has acquired historic significance along the years, as it used to be a home, a detention centre and barracks.
